SLO Superior Court - Department 2

The Morro Bay Commercial Fishermen's Organization and the Port San Luis Commercial Fishermen’s Association have an important SLO Superior Court hearing Friday, May 30 at 10:30am with Judge Van Rooyen against State Water and Land agencies, along with the CA Coastal Commission, Wind Developers, and Survey Company for proceeding with Site Surveys in Federal waters before legally required Data collection and Best Practice policies were developed.

This lawsuit was originally brought forward in February 2024 and was denied. It was appealed and sent to a higher court in Ventura, but first it has to go thru a process of arguing what evidence can be put forth in the appeal. The other side has dozens of attorneys burying our single attorney, William”Bill” S. Walter, in hundreds of pages of rebuttals and letters signed by the State Attorney General Rob Bonta asking the Judge to drop the case.

Thankfully, Bill has been able to get assistance by a “brilliant guy” that is willing to work on contingency. So wish us luck and if anybody is available to come and support the fishermen in court we would greatly appreciate it.

Join us in this National Day of Action - END IT! This event is held in opposition to offshore wind.

The focus is to let the incoming administration know that we, with a united voice, are voicing our opposition to offshore wind and are looking to the promise to END IT!

We will no longer accept our government's destructive policies regarding this unacceptable technology. we will protect our oceans and coastal communities from the threat that offshore wind presents.

Groups on both the east coast and west coast will be participating in this event.

The event will include several brief speakers and then participants are encouraged to march along the Embarcadero as a group - signs will be provided or bring you own. March expected to begin at approximately 12:30p

Shining the Light on Offshore Wind Energy Forum - Illuminating the Environmental, Economic and Community Impacts

Join us for our Fall Forum on Offshore Wind Energy on November 9, 2024 at Swallow Creek Ranch in Cayucos from 1-4pm.

A wine and cheese reception will follow from 4-5pm.

The forum is intended to inform and educate people of the Central Coast about proposed offshore wind energy development off our coast and in our communities and will feature four dynamic speakers and Q&A, followed by a wine & cheese reception with live music by the Jill Knight Duo.

Dr. C. Michael Hogan, physicist and cetacean behavior expert

Dr. David Henderson, energy economist

Bonnie Brady, CEO Long Island Fishing Association

Zara Landrum, Morro Bay City Councilmember.

The forum will be held at the beautiful Swallow Creek Ranch, nestled in the rolling hills of Cayucos, overlooking the Pacific Ocean. It is a working cattle ranch that prioritizes habitat restoration and conservation, and focuses on sustainable practices. A historic barn on the property has been repurposed to accommodate weddings and events of all kinds.

This Rally was coordinated in resposne to plans to industrialize Port San Luis/Avila Beach!

Most are unaware that Port San Luis Harbor District has been meeting in Closed Session with port developer Clean Energy Terminals and has signed an agreement to begin studies for an operations and maintenance port for offshore wind.

Join us at Dog Beach (aka Olde Port Beach) on Sunday August 18th from noon to 1:00 p.m. inform residents and visitors about these plans.

Show your support of the Morro Bay and Port San Luis Commercial Fishermen in the San Luis Obispo County Superior Court on Monterey Ave in SLO. The hearing begins at 10:00a in Department 2 with Judge Craig Van Rooyen.

Very generally speaking - the Judge review if the Offshore Wind Companies and several State Agencies moved forward and allowed offshore surveys to occur before a (required) Statewide Strategy which would determine best practices for offshore surveys and data collection to assess impacts, was completed.

Our local Commercial Fishermen are an important part of our community and we hope folks are able to show their support by attending the hearing.
